Boxing Day Capers

What else would someone do on a cold wintry day in the middle of Ware? Ice skating of course!

My friend Chris had always wanted to take me ice skating, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Every year Van Hage Garden Centre has a real ice rink and it’s just a fun and exciting place to go. When we got there, we were allowed to take my manual wheelchair onto the ice and one of the first aid assistants offered to take me round for a spin!

It gave me an amazing sense of freedom but also feeling wobbly and out of the control at the same time because I didn’t have my electric chair and someone else was steering me around. I am not sure whether that was to hold themselves up or whether it was to get me around the ice rink!
